Right On Time is an app for practising punctuality, directed at any individuals who have come to realise that they have problems with their time keeping. By using the app for a week it is possible to become more aware of time keeping and make progress at getting to places on time. The app only addresses a small range of issues that might cause anyone to find punctuality a challenge, but perhaps it is not necessary to try and conquer it all at one go. Start with Right On Time, and if you find it helps, you can go on and try other means to keep improving.

The app has two modes (in Settings): When “Continuous” is switched on, the app will be active throughout the day, asks you to evaluate your activities immediately after you complete them, and sums up your achievements at the end of the day (you can choose the time). If “Continuous” is switched off, you can set a time for when to do your evaluations all in one go at a time of your own choosing.

Users can allow the app to use the device calendar to automatically import calendar entries as tasks in Right On Time, but it is not compulsory for the use of Right On Time.

The content of the app draws on some common knowledge and everyday learnings about being on time, and has found inspiration from some web sources such as:

and Diana DeLonzor’s book Never be Late Again. The design of the app is based on principles of persuasive systems design.

Design and development of the app: Bereket Woldemicael (BSc) and Piiastiina Tikka (PhD) from Oulu Advanced Research on Software and Information Systems (OASIS) at University of Oulu, Finland. If you have any questions or comments regarding the app, please drop a message at [email protected].
